The school for the Deaf was founded in 1983 after a deaf boy was brought to the Pattaya Orphanage. Since its foundation, more than 400 deaf students have graduated.
Most of the young students live at the school during term time, some spend their weekends at home.
The school provides the children with the preschool education that they will need to enter a mainstream government-run school for the deaf. All children, receive two years of teaching in reading and writing in official Thai sign language. But they are also taught in arithmetic and art. The Thai sign lesson is the most important, deaf children can learn. With this skill they are able to communicate with others and so life is getting easier for them.
As the school for the deaf is situated on the same compound as the Pattaya Orphanage, the children have the same access to health care as the orphans.
Human Help Network supports the school for the deaf since many years and assists its work.
